Find out everything you need to know about playing Pick 3 in Wisconsin. It’s an easy game to play, but there are some aspects of it you may want to familiarize yourself with, whether you are a new player or a regular.
Pick 3 is a three-digit lottery played in Wisconsin. There are two draws every day, with three numbers from 0 to 9 selected at random in each one. You win prizes by matching the numbers you choose to those that are drawn.
The Midday drawing takes place at 1:30 p.m., and the Evening draw at 9:00 p.m. You have to purchase tickets before those times for them to be included in the relevant drawing.
You can fill out a playslip at any Wisconsin Lottery retail location. Choose your own numbers or get a Quick Pick, then choose your play type and select a play amount.
You can play a Straight if you want to try and match the numbers exactly, or a Box just to match them in any order. Alternatively, you can play a Straight/Box, which combines both play types. Go to the How to Play page for more details about the various ways to play.
You can pay $0.50 or $1 for a Straight play or a Box play. If you choose the Straight/Box option, it is a fixed $1 per play.
The most you can win in Pick 3 is $500, if you play a Straight and wager $1. All the prizes are fixed and depend on how much you wager and the play type you choose. If you play a Box or Straight/Box, the prize also depends on whether your combination of numbers is a 3-Way or a 6-Way.
A 3-Way play is any three-digit combination that has two identical numbers, such as 112 or 707, while a 6-Way has three unique numbers (such as 123 or 987). The term refers to how many ways those numbers can be ordered. For example, 112 (a 3-Way play) can only be arranged as 112, 121 or 211. A 6-Way play has twice as many possible combinations, for example 123, 132, 213, 231, 312 and 321.
The odds are different for each play type, ranging from 1 in 167 for a 6-Way Box to 1 in 1,000 for a Straight. Go to the Prizes and Odds page to find out your chances of winning for each play type.
You can purchase tickets up to seven days ahead. This allows you to enter up to 14 consecutive drawings – if you play both the Midday and Evening drawings.
